fuel filter/lines

Hey there,

Have read through about 12 pages of things using the search button, but I'm still a little confused. I went to change the fuel filter and pulled on the quick connect and one of the tabs broke off. I then read that you don't need that quick connect. My question is how do I now get the piece off...with one of the disconnect tools? or am I better off just cutting the whole piece off and adding a new rubber line? and if I do that what kind of fitting(s) do I use? Sorry maybe a dumb post ...I'm just a bit confused ...thanks!

I took a pair of needle nose and pulled it out.

i just changed mine for the first time who knows how long...possibly original?!? anyway, my tabs broke off as well. then once the filter pops out i just used a small screw driver to loosen the tabs holding that stupid metal clip in place (youll need to bend them towards the center of the hose) then pulled it out with a pair of needles nose like above.
