2004 Sunfire. Had the oil problem in the intake. I cleaned everything out but now the idle gallops up and down when I put the car in gear (automatic) with my foot on the brake. It runs perfectly fine while driving and idles fine in park. The is no CEL either. Any help greatly appreciated!!!!

Ok can anyone tell me where the idle air control valve is located so I can try and clean it? From what ive read is it integrated into the Throttle Body?

Use a good throttle body cleaner and tooth brush or another soft bristled brush and clean the throttle body until you can eat off of it There should be two holes on the throttle body (Not sure if one is after the butterfly plate or before), Spray inside those holes with the cleaner.
Like I said in the other thread, when I put on the breather filter with my intake, I cleaned off the throttle body. Mine almost black. It took probably a good half an hour to clean it all up. But the car does run better, and gets better mpgs.
And yes, I believe the iac is right there in the tb. It should be.
on thr front of ur TB the connector looks like this:

And the part looks like this:

Hope this helps. Also if you go to try to buy one, its acutally called Idle Control Valve. Goodluck. I have a similar problem with my 00 Z when sitting at a light feels like ur pumping the brakes. If it helps let me know!
Sweet thanks guys!!!! I already cleaned the TB really well. Thats why I wanted to get that oil bull sh!t taken care of because all its gonna do is gum everything up. Ill look the next day my wife is off work. I really appreciate the quick response and Ill be sure to post my findings on here. Can you remove the IACV without thaing odd the TB?

You should be able too. IIRC its only 1 maybe 2 torx screws holding it in. Goodluck buddy.
Cleaned the IACV but no luck...Took it to advance and used their scan tool. It showed a p0300. I think that is multiple cylinder misfire. Ive already changed the plugs but Ill pull them back out and get a new set of wires tomorrow as well. I dont think its plugs because it only idles rough in park now and in gear. When Im driving the car it runs fine. Im stumped. HELP!!!!!

Multiple cylinder misfire is usually caused by a fuel problem. Run some injector cleaner through the gas tank. Run a good quality one. B&G, Chevron Techron is another good one.
If that doesn't fix anything, check the fuel pressure, and change the fuel filter. I'll have to find what the spec should be for fuel pressure and get back to ya, unless someone else chimes in.
Ok Ill get a can of that tomorrow. I screwed up above there is no plug wires LOL. If its a fuel problem you would think it would miss while you were driving it. Im def. gonna pull the plugs tomorrow and look at them as well. How hard is it to change the fuel filter?

Anything is possible. There are many explanations as to what could be causing the problem.
It could be that the fuel filter is just starting to get plugged a little, or the fuel injectors or fuel rail are a bit plugged. Hence the injector cleaner. It's cheap and easy and rules out a clogged injector, for the most part. A second thing you can do is get better quality gas. I'm not sure what your putting in it now, but, it could be caused by bad gas. Also, if the injector cleaner doesn't work, check the fuel pressure. It could be low enough to cause a very slight misfire, but not low enough to cause the engine to lean out too much causing a lean code. Also check the compression while you have the plugs out just to rule out rings, or valve problems. The readings should be within 20% of each other, the less difference the better.
Is your air filter new?
The fuel filter is cheap, and relatively easy. Having the quick disconnect tool makes it that much easier, but it can be taken of without it. Do a search for fuel filter on here, you'll find many many threads of explanations, and rants about it.
air filter is new. Im very anal about car maintenance. This is why Im pissed LOL...If this doesnt work its off to the garage

Well I replaced the fuel filter today. When I started the car there was a lound tick from the head so I shut it off immediatley. It never refired after that. It will crank but won't even try run. I don't know what happened. Maybe timing? I heard thiese things have problems with the timing chains? I had to get it towed to the local shop. Its getting fuel and the fuel pump kicks on with a hummm from the key. It in there hands now. Any ideas?

Thats strange. Tick from the head is either timing chain, valve, or lifter, or other valve train problem. Actually a loud tick could also be an injector too.
To be honest I have no idea without seeing the car in person and hearing it.
Best of luck. Be sure to let me know what the problem is actually. I'm curious.
It has done this loud tick/tap before when you start it. If you shut if off and restart it it stops. This time it really stopped. Sucks since it was just paid off 2 month ago. Anyone wanna buy a sunfire LOL

How many miles do you have on your sunfire anyway?
90000 miles. I think we are gonna trade it or sell it privately if anyone's interested. My wife wants a 4wd and this is a good excuse lol
