Oil Change

Alright so it's not a J body but an oil change is an oil change

I need some opinions and advice:

My 2006 CTS 2.8L 6 spd burns oil. Common problem, leading to the rings and seals to need replacement (in a perfect world)
GM listed a notice regarding this issue back in 2008, but of course when I found this out, my used car was out of warranty.
To help me, the dealership suggested to use Non-synthetic oil, as "this solves the problem in some cars with this problem" and that the 2.8L doesn't need to run on synthetic oil like the larger block engines

Is this possible? I discussed it with my mechanic-in-training and he didn't think it would make a difference, and he suggested putting an oil addative in

Alright... suggestions and / or comments?

How much oil are we talking? and how many kms/miles?

The only reason they would suggest conventional oil is because synthetic penetrates tighter tolerances, which is a good thing for lubrication, but bad if you have a leak, or are loosing it past the rings. Wont solve any problems by switching to conventional, worn parts are worn parts and the remedy of lower quality oil is not the way to go if you plan on keeping the car, ever thought of selling? haha i joke

I had an old caddy that loved the oil, I tired putting lucas oil stabilizer in it a couple time up around 300,000kms, it seemed to help oil consumption, but that was mostly due to the molasses like texture of the stuff I imagine, so again, sure the stabilizers might be a good move to slow it down a bit, but you aren't solving any problems.

It has 65,000 kms on it
leaking about 4L in 3 months (approx 4k kms)
very pissed at GMPP but rules are rules and my balls in their hands

I have heard of people using this stuff called Mystery Oil. Its thick as hell from what I know, and they seem to help the oil consumption of engines, it dont fix it, but it helps. Maybe want to look into that. Its made by Marvel, and I have heard good things about them. But only use 25% of total crankcase capacity. Dont fill it up with that lol. Just go to google and type in Marvel Mystery Oil. U may need to look into selling the car, or swapping a motor or something bc the problem is only going to get worse.

nice jug of 20w/50w oil will help the oil burning process slow down.

Actually the opposite, Marvel's Mystery Oil is very thin and will evaporate/burn off quick. MMO is best for top end noises, and cleans well. Also, it is also used as oil for air impact guns.

GM urges not to use that grade, I'm not sure if the 2.8L falls under that.

I would drive easier, not always flooring it and I would switch to 5w40. Try Engine Restore (looks like a soda can) or Duralube... which I really liked outcome of it.
