Stock seats recline system help
Sunday, February 06, 2011 8:30 PM
I my stock Z-24 drivers seat reclines too far. A few days ago my wife, who hardly ever rides in my car, noticed my drivers seat was leading back farther then the passenger seat. I tried to raise it up to the level of the passenger but it seams like its hitting something. I am a pretty heavy guy(300ish) so I am not ruling out it just broke but I am taking a look at it in the daylight tomorrow. Any suggestions, I couldn't find anything searching..

I also may just buy new front seats. What fits easily, WRX seats?

F Body seats fit perfect. (Firebird and Camaro)

As far as what could be wrong with the stock seats - I would just go with a simple replacement from the yard. The recline mechanisms in those things are only so-so to begin with. I see a lot of them broken in the UPull yard. It seems like a common problem.

I pulled the seat out and can't tell much. I might get a junk yard seat but that is kinda gross, dirt and mold. I might talk to my ex co-workers at the auto parts store, see what deal they can work with me.

I'm a big guy too and the grand am seats are way more comfortable than the j body seats for us husky fellows. It's a fairly straight forward swap too with basic tools, some high strength (grade 8 or better) bolts from Home depot or Lowes, and a little time to swap the sliders (about an hour or so)
