I have a 99 Z24 with a weird belt issue.
The motor was rebuild about 1500 miles ago. Getrag tranny was swapped in ~500 miles ago. I had no issues before or after I rebuilt the motor, noise didnt start until I changed swapped the transmission.
After the swap, the car ate 2 belts. Literally, within 5 minutes of idling it shreaded the belts. First one was old so thought that was the issue. 2nd one was brand new, squealed like crazy then shreaded.
Changed the tensioner thinking that was the problem.
Now the belt squeals bad randomly. Moslty at idle but sometimes taking off from a stop.
At idle I can see probably 3/8-1/2" of deflect on the belt which I dont think it normal.
Ive changed the tensioner a couple times now thinking maybe the spring was weak didnt help, tried a couple different belts, different lengths and brands.
Right now and previously the car had the 480k5 belt on it. Measured to make sure was 48", was actually 47.75". Tried the 475k5 belt thinking the .5" smaller belt would take the deflect out but I couldnt even get it to go on.
It will squeal with the A/C on or off, the alternator was put on when motor was rebuilt and doesnt grind when spinning by hand.
The crank pulley(oem) looks good, no visable signs of failure and made sure its tight using an impact.
Im at a loss with this problem.
Any suggestions?
