When starting the engine sometimes there has been only a "tick" sound??? I thought the starter solenoid, bought one and decided to replace it myself... itīs a PITA the starter seems to be to big to go out and same to go back in only when I removed some bracket under the oil filter I was able to get it in place. Tick disappeared for 2 days then came back! Took it to the shop where I bought the solenoid and they removed the starter again and told me some story about a brush $100 for the labor and parts. OK for 2 or 3 days then the tick is back!! Decided to let it be till whatever is failing dies and then replace it. Decided to do the coil conversion to MSD in the process I thought convenient to tighten the wires to the terminal that goes to the batt post (not that they were loose) but why not.... well that seems to have solved the mystery tick. BTW coil conversion was easy and it works perfect.
IDK why you bought starter parts and had them rebuild it when a new starter for these cars are about 80 dollars......check your wires to your battery, i remember replacing a starter bc it clicked, turned the key with new starter and click click....they were rusty and dirty battery terminals
A new starter here in Venezuela is about $200. The solenoid was just 10 or 15$... The lesson is check and recheck the most obvius first
im sorry, new was 175 here, re-manufactured is 80...but its still the same thing and has warrentee
