Weird Problem with my 05 cavalier

hi guys, got a 05 cavalier with 2.2 ecotec , 5 speed. for the past month i have been noticing that when i sit with the car in neutral the rpm might scoop down below the normal 900 a little or might move up and down every second. but then theres some days that the ide always goes perfect.

i cant drive standard all that great, but also sometimes when i press the clutch to the floor while iam in a gear, the rpms might jump down to 500 and then back to 900. today i was driving and it felt like the car kinda stopped for 3 seconds while i was accelerating (didnt notice the rpm jump)

i tried wot threw all gears and my clutch doesnt skip and it runs good. also earlier today the exhaust smelled like rotten eggs, but now when i parked it it didnt. what might i try? no check engine light either.

and also, im not 100% sure but i think sometimes it feels like the clutch grabs farther at the end of the pedal sometimes and times it goes back to normal.

Exhaust smelling like rotten rggs is a sign of a bad catalytic converter.. which may also be why your engine idle dips like that. The two may be completely unrelated though as my 03 5 speed has done the "idle dip" since I drove it off the lot.

My 97 does the idle thing also... if its not dying I wouldnt worry to much.

As for your other problems... Like said, you definatly need to get your catalytic converter replaced.

The idle dip may also be a bad/failing Idle Air Control. I had all kinds of idle problems when mine failed.
