No "special" tools, but you need to drop the transmission.

big ass socket to take the nut off the axles. Other than that you should need basic sockets.

You could unbolt the strut and pull the axle back, maybe take off the tie rod also to give you more pull back. I've done it on an Eclipse, it gives you enough room to drop and put it back, but it's just one more thing in the way to watch out for. 29mm I believe it is.

then what? leave the axles hang in the way so you cant drop the trans out the bottom after notching the frame? easier to completely remove the axles than leave them attached to the hub hanging in the way.......

It is easier to remove them but i was just say you don't have to.

Use a 32mm Deep Well Socket to get the axles off, break them loose while the car is on the ground or good luck getting them off. I used a C-Clamp to hold my flywheel in place when torquing down the bolts on the flywheel and pressure plate. Use a clamp or a vice grip of some type to hold it.
Pretty straight forward once you get into it.

I really do not think it's 32mm, i used a 30mm and it was still too big.

It varies...Go to Harbor Freight, grab a set of large deep well sockets.
I just did mine about 2 weeks ago.
