Hi y'all. I have a 2004 Cavalier with 125,000 miles on it. At 70 to 90 mph I get a severe wheel vibration. I got the wheels ballanced and it's still there. My plan is to replace the wheel bearings, but before that I wanted to see if anyone thought there might be something else I should check. All the steering hardware boots are fine, but maybe the hardware is worn out? Any help would be appreciated. What should I be looking for?
Also, whats confusing me is that on some road surfaces, it's fine. On others, its really bad. Maybe that matters?
i thought the same thing once and it ended up being my tire had a broken belt but my buddies car needed a wheel bearing and it popped at all speeds...id take pressure off the wheel and try to move it. you may find its just hardware that way
Any worn front-end parts will contribute to vibration.
Wheel bearings,as you've mentioned, tie rods, control arm bushings, ball joints, and even strut mounts.
Check the play in all those items. And in the meantime, slow down.
Your wheels shakin' is a sign that something's wrong, so until you correct it, take it easy. Okay?
