Hey guys, I have a 05 Cavalier 2door 5speed with 75K miles on it. Last night 5min away from home, a fairly loud thumping/growling noise started that was proportional to the road speed. Happened out of nowhere. Pulling into the driveway, I heard a fairly lout POP. I am pretty sure its my CVs are gone as I think I hear some clicking noises too. How common is it on these cars to have CV fail at this mileage? What's the best way to fix them? Reman ones from the dealer? Used ones from the junkyard?
Thanks in advance.
Yeah sounds like a CV joint. I got my drivers side going out now. When I turn the car hard left with a bit of gas you can clearly hear it, loud clicking sound. I find it pretty common on our cars, we alot of people around where I live are replacing them often. Depends what you wanna spend I guess. You can buy them from the dealer if you wanna buy GM parts. Or you can get them from the junker. I know the last one I replaced we made a new one out of some old cavalier that was at the scrap yard. As long as the donor car has the same transmission and stuff.

My right side is like that too! when i come to a stop it pops, and when i pull into the driveway. Is it the CV Joint or control Arm??
Well, I went to take my wheels off to try to see what joint is clicking, and when I pulled one of the screw on plastic wheel cover bolts things, the lug nut came off with it!!! So I put the lugs back on and socked them in tight. Tightened all four wheels. Took the car for a drive and the noise is gone.
LOL, I can't believe it was just loose lug nuts. At least it didn't cost anything. I'm very happy its not my CV joints!
So for future reference, always check your lugs before anything else!
