So I've been researching different topics and have run into a personal dilema, engine idle speed. My car is a 2003 M62 supercharged 2.2L ECOTEC Cavalier with an automatic transmission. Even before the charger it has always idled at 500 RPM in all gears (PRND321). Lot's people had previously questioned this number, blaming a faulty gauge, but even the Snap-On scanner says so. Most cars and even my buddys' Cobalt idle at or around 750.
So my question is if this is the right idle speed for the ECOTECs?
Most automatics idle lower than manual's.
To me it sounds normal.
My manual idles at 800. My mazda with an auto idles a little on the low side, around 400. Granted it's not a cavi, but still.
All the auto's I've owned have been between 400-600 rpm's idle.
I have an 02' automatic ecotec and an 04' automatic ecotec (both cavaliers). Both idle at 500rpms (when the engine is warm).
I have an 03 ecotec manual with some n/a mods and I idle at about 1050
I've always questioned this but only did it after my mods + tune were complete

Thanks guys, just wanted to clear that up since I have an idle problem with the supercharger on and i'm trying to rule whatever I can out.
