I've got a '99 2.2L. Last year I got a P0442 small evap leak. I replaced the fuel tank because it was rusting out and thought it might cure the P0442 as well. I reset the codes but it came back in a week or two.
I am also getting fuel overflowing and spitting back out of the filler whenever I try to fill the tank. I'm looking through Alldata and I see a Fill Limiter Vent Valve that seems like it could be responsible but can't find anywhere to buy a new one.
I suppose it could also be related to the evap system somehow, but diagnosis looks difficult and I'm not sure if the evap system comes into play at all when filling with the car off.
The filler neck (or the gas tank filler inlet) seems to also have some kind of check valve. Maybe think about replacing the filler neck?
