So, my rear left drum is locking up on me every now and then on my 02 cav beater. When replacing both sets of rear shoes, do you also recommend replacing the hardware as well? Like the springs and stuff? Do you also recommend replacing the actual drum?
Or will I be ok just replacing the shoes to see if that fixes the problem?
Thx.

Last time I had a problem with a drum locking up it was because I over heated the shoes and they were all cracked to hell. New shoes fixed the problem, but it depends on how bad your drum looks. Try shoes, if it still acts up you can always throw some new drums on.
Also, get lifetime replacement shoes. I replace mine 2 to 3 times a year for free, the guys at Advance hate me, lol

Leaky wheel cylinder will do it as well. They are $10 at most auto parts places. I just fixed this on my buddies cavalier. He passenger rear would lockup when he came to a stop.

Yeah that tips the scales to a definite leaky cylinder, haha.

Just got two new cylnders, so ill replace the one with the wheel locking up, then decide if I need to do the other side.
Thanks again guys.

Wasn't too bad to change out, pain in the ass getting the actual drum off then the cylinder didnt want to come out. All thats left is to bleed the brakes. I hate doing that.

for 5 bux i would replace the springs too, what if you put new shoes and drums on and a spring cuts loose because you never replaced it? then you are back to buying everything again!
I agree, go ahead and change everything while you are in there. No need to have to come back and do everything again.
