Need help with 2004 cavalier steering column
Thursday, April 21, 2011 12:12 AM
I recently bought a 2004 Chevy Cavalier 2D coupe. It was the base model, thus didn't have tilt steering. Is there any way to adjust the steering column? I need to lower it at least an 1 inch or 2 because it's just too and high and somewhat uncomfortable.

Underneith there is 2 bolts 15mm i beleive holding the column to a bracket off the firewall under the dash. I havent looked if its studs or bolts, ben a while since I was under there. but if you undo those, the column will drop. if studs you can try to beat them up and out, get longer ones and use something along the lines of 5/8 pipe pieces cut to your one inch as spacers and botl it all back up. if bolts are used, just use longer bolts with your spacers.

Give me a day or two and I will look under the dash myself again and fill you in if you would like.

yeah that would be great. I noticed those two bolts underneath too and was gonna take them out to see what the situation behind the cover was.
