so...as the title says, I have a weird noise question. yes i understand the fact that noises are next to impossible to diagnose over the internet...
i've got the 2.4, 17 inch wheels, automatic, 102,xxx miles.
about a month after i got the car (back in january), i started getting this weird noise - kinda like a helicopter, but only present at low speed. at high speeds it sounded like a roar. as far as i can tell, the sound is coming from the left front wheel. recently, the whompwhompwhomp has asserted itself at higher speeds (loudest at 55-60), and the roar is insane now. my tires aren't very old on the front (still 2-3 times the penny test), and the noise is most prevalent when turning right. so i figured it was the left front wheel bearing...replaced it with a timken bearing today, and what do i hear when driving it around? whompwhompwhomp...any ideas? the ball joints are fine, brand new brakes and rotors (replaced about 3 weeks ago), cv joint boot intact, no visible problems whatsoever on either side. i even grabbed everything i could get my hands on and tried to move it...but no movement. here's a link to an audio clip i took while driving:

thanks!
Better off to replace your bearings or entire hubs in pairs.
