I put on Megan Racing Cat-Back Exhaust and took out the silencer after I drove it a week. Soon after that the Check Engine Light came on. After scanning it, the results were that there was low voltage on the O2 sensor, Bank 1, Sensor 2. I put the silencer back in and reset the computer but the check engine light came back on. I now know for sure that the sensor is bad because I already checked the wires coming and going to the manifold and cat. I was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem after putting on aftermarket exhaust. I know with the O2 sensor being bad it can potentially ruin the Catalytic Converter which would be a nightmare. Please respond with your input. Thanks!!
Low voltage is a sensor problem.
I think you just a coincidence there. The sensor is before the cat-back exhaust. So putting on a exhaust AFTER the o2 negates the exhaust being the problem.
Put a new o2 on and You'll be fine.
ok budddy thank you! I was just wondering because I thought maybe it lost back pressure when I took out the silencer or put on the exhaust, maybe causing that problem.
oh and how hard is it on the catalytic converter? I don't want to be buying another one of those..
I don't understand your question. Do you mean how hard is it to remove?
Or did you mean how bad would it be to leave the code in the pcm with the bad sensor? I probably wouldn't do it for very long. But I personally don't let any codes go for very long.
You could try getting some sensor cleaner, and taking out the sensor, and cleaning it up good. Something that can lengthen the life of the sensors.
It's a common problem with these cars, it's the heated oxygen sensor underneath and near the cat converter (it's exact location would be directly underneath your shifter). With some heat, the sensor should be easy to remove, just don't strip the threads! The heavy wire connected to the sensor plugs in under the hood, near the brake fluid reservoir.
I let mine go for a couple of years without replacing it and I'm still driving that same car and I didn't replace the cat converter. So it's up to you whether or not to replace the oxygen sensor.
One major point that wasnt said yet is this. Stay far far away from bosch sensors or the same problem will come back. They do not like our cars, why i dont know, just use any other kind except Bosch.
