I bought some denso platinum plugs today and the have some special tips that are supposed to help make a more efficient fire but the gap is 0.040..do i need to re gap to 0.060?
Anyone? i plan on putting these in tomorrow....
are they gappable? or the 2 ground electrode type? would gapping them hurt the special tip? stock gap is .060 but ive ran my car at .040 and had no problems, althought when i saw they were all .04 i changed them to .06...best to stick with stock unless you're running boost or something else that needs a change in gap, bigger gap=bigger spark which is more complete burn...unless your coils are weak and cant handle the bigger gap, but like i said, it's stock gap so there should be no problem with the coils handling that...if it was me, id re-gap them at .060 since it takes 30 seconds to do all 4 plugs
if you're talking about the denso platinum TTs, take them back they are WAAAAAAAY too short of a plug. i'm talking they're more than 1/4 inch sorter than the factory plugs. get the proper factory plugs, ac delco 41-928.

how big should plugs be? cause i see random ones on shelves at stores i mean, any idiot could put them into their motor and have the piston hit it or something if it's too long
well i went to advance and thats what came up for my car and even the website says exact fit...and iv rad reviews and everybody has good things to say
then use them.... i don't know why people ask advise on things if they are just going to say "well it said it was fine so i am just going to use it anyway" even if people that probably have used them before say that they don't work...
i just like getting a second opinion and try and learn from other peoples mistakes..on this one i read more good than bad i just wanted to double check the gapping...btw rich i compaired them to my old ac delcos and theyre a bit longer..the threads are the same
ok i may be off base here but uhh....why in the hell would you put denso crap in a chevy that didnt come with denso crap? if you want denso buy a damn honda. but you drive a chevy put ac delco in it. not like those goofy spark plugs are going to do anything for you. except shrink you wallet. i run ac delco plugs and im getting 38 mpg hwy consistantly. no reason to spend more for less.
i bought them because i really needed a new set of plugs and only had 13 bucks and those were the only platinums they had..i didnt buy them by choice if i had 20-25 bucks to spend on plugs i woulda got ac delco
well whatever works i guess. alot of platinum plugs should be gapped to there specs and not the cars specs. you can call the company and ask for sure. im sure there is a number on the box.
well i thought about that too and i looked on the box and it was a japan number..lol i decided not to call but i posted the same thread on my local forum and they said leave it alone so all i did id checked the 0.040 gap and put them in, so far they are doing very well..but im prolly guna go get some ac delcos here soon when i get the extra cash..
yea 40 should be fine 60 probably is to. i bought bosh platinums for 2 bucks a plug on sale a few weeks ago when i bought the car it had autolites and i hate those so i changed them usually i buy ac delco or champion ive had good luck with both. if they work good for you keep um in. im suprised they were cheap thought denso parts where im at generally cost more.
thats what i thought cause usually plugs with any kind of special electrode ends cost more but they were like 2.99 a peice..and i looked at the invintory thing when the guy had it pulled up and it said like 28 all the rest were 2,4,5 and so on..but they will get the true test next week i drive nearly 400 mi a week
well as much as i dont like to say it denso makes good stuff i wouldnt worry. i wouldnt use them because they dont have them where i am and i usually buy american but i had little money and the bosh was a good deal.
yea thats also what iv heard..for me it was either autolite copper core or the denso..lol

ok, i sell parts for a living, and as such, i get to do my own testing of parts. first and foremost, bosch single platinums are the worst. the center electrode is microscopic and encased in the ceramic. these plugs misfired right off the bat. then tried the denso TTs. yes, i know they come up as they fit in the car, because they do. they screw in, and the car will run. however, within 2 months, i had a backfire (not misfire, this was an actual backfire, popped my filter off my intake) issue that when i pulled the plugs, i noticed they were BLACK. next were the tried and true ngk tr55ix. i liked these plugs, they are the same physical size as the factory delcos. only issue is they are $.50 more each (on average) than the factory plugs, but don't preform any better. currently running the 41-928's, and have been for two years now, not one hiccup, misfire, slow start, nothing. runs smooth, strong, and great. seriosly, take the densos back, save some cash and get the delco plugs.

Yea iv just started noticing my car is starting to act a bit sluggish and i blame it on the plugs cuz it ran fine til i changed them, its either that or that damn bosch o2 sensor.. (i didnt have the cash on hand to buy ac delco) and i know everybody says wait and save ur money but im a college kid and i live off my grant money and latley iv had to buy stuff out of need instead of what i want..i absolutly love ac delco stuff..i bought a set of those plug wires from rock auto and they perform great..damn i wish our cars wernt so picky..haha
