Hi all

new here and i love the forums lots of good info

i could not find if there is a way to test a water pump

engine info

2000 chevy cavalier 2.4L stock

my wifes car is having a strange overheating problem... well it is not red lineing. but it is going higher then its ever been
own the car the whole time 11 years it it never went over 195 even in traffic. now it goes over to 205 or 210 all the time when in traffic... that i don't care it just the engine starts to run rough and surging? hard to explain, when we get going it goes down again.

new thermostat, no air, that i know of. i use a way i found here to bleed it . so im out of ideas. its the water pump or the radiator (maybe it need a flush never been done) my mechanic said he does not think that but its air and i need to bleed it. so i followed what i found here. im lost

any help is good

thanks all

I know it sounds stupid, but the first thing to check is your coolant mix. If you only have water in there it will run hot..

im running 50/50 dexcool mix.

and i know that 210 is not hot, but there is no reason for it never to run that warm for 10 years and then it does
and it not the temp that bothering me, it just when it gets that hot the engine starts to run rough and surging or something.

and i have 162000 on this engine

squeeze the upper rad hose and revv it a bit, you should feel the water moving through the hose. that's how you test water pump =D

cool thx man i will try it just to try it

i did find out that my engine temp control sensor was bad so i replaced that now it does not read over 200

i think that i need a flush and it should be down to 195 and the sensor was the reason that the fan never kicked on

i see a light and the end...and its not a train

peace
