hello my father owns a 2000 cavalier z24 and the exhaust is saggin really bad.thought it was the bolts for the flange on the headers and it brought up the exhaust but when u put the car in gear the exhaust moves and the hard work was a waste and u see the engine moves when ur changin the gears.can it be the motor mounts r bad?? would appreciate for a reply, need this car for work.
I would def visually check them for cracks, loose hardware.Just reading the post points to the mounts in my book, and I am not a 3rd gen know all but,any engine would do just that.
open the hood
put in D
hold the brake hard and give it some gas
let someone watch the engine move
that will tell u which engine mounts are bad
(if manual, pull E-brake and try to drive without stalling)
the engine will move even if the mounts are still good
they aren't solid, hence the reason they're a great upgradable piece
the exhaust of those cars does sag badly... it's common
we only have 1 hanger and that's at the back of the setup
best exhaust work I can suggest is mount a second hanger near the muffler
and if you dont want the exhuast to move, then put in more solid mounts and / or a flex pipe
