2.4 oil leaks
Friday, June 10, 2011 8:59 AM
There's more than one place unfortunately, mainly the face between the timing chain housing and the block/camshaft towers, and the seams between the head and cam housing and then the cam housing cover. I have oil in the spark plug sockets and leaked down the center between the cam housings and oil everywhere from the passenger engine mount to the floor.
Has 160k on it, replaced the water pump and chain guides about 40k ago and it seemed not to leak then. 3 cam housing bolts are stripped so im 90% sure a previous owner/someone was in there messing something up.
Working on getting a new head while im in there to fix the leaking situations but this is new to me.
Anyone had/have this problem? Difficulty? Advice and warnings are appreciated.

Thanks

Just replace the gaskets. its normal over time for gaskets to seep. Its even worse if you are using a full synthetic oil.

Replacing the gaskets will require the timing chain be removed so you can pull the cam towers off and make sure they are cleaned up properly so they don't leak when they are resealed.

If any can housing bolts are striped (the threads in the head pull out) you will have an oil leak.

Head is off. And the threads on some holes pull out like little useless slinky's.
Suggestion time. New head? Have this one bored and tapped for larger bolt? Aftermarket option? Other ideas?
I'm leaning towards a 'new' used, good head for a simple swap, unless someone can convince me towards something else with wisdom.
