Please help!!! I have a 2001 with the 3-speed auto.
Recently, suddenly, the trans wouldn't shift, the Trac-control light would go on. Just putting it into gear made a hard bang, and if it did shift, it did the same.
Reading here that the fluid level is probably low (it did recently stop leaking all on its own!) I put in 2 quarts of ATF, and the level looks pretty good, and it would drive perfectly back to normal after that.
A couple of days later, it intermitently does the same shifting problem again. This time, all I have to do is turn the engine off then on again, and it's back to normal, for a little while.
Just to be mischevious, the engine died on the road. Rebooting the car solved that too, and it hasn't happened again.\
I havent' been able to find info on why all this might be happening, and now my only guess is a solenoid or sensor, but it doesn't compute to me and I don't even know where these things are.
What is wrong here, this thing is driving me nuts too, and it's very unsafe to drive, especially over the long distances I do.
check the tran fluid, maybe its contaminated and for the other problem your fuel pump maybe going out
