What year 2.2 OHV did I buy?
Saturday, June 25, 2011 9:15 PM
I have a 96 Cavy & bought a used motor off a guy who told me it was a 96 also. I noticed today that the crank sensor on this one is a 2-prong connector & mine is a 3-prong. Also, this engine doesn't have the engine oil level sensor that mounts in the front side of the oil pan.

I can swap the sensor & the oil pan, but is this really a 96 engine? Is there any way to tell? I just worried I'm going to get this thing back in the car & its not going to run due to some electrical/sensor problem.

If the sensor is a small plug and two pins, it's a 94 and before block.

I was at the JY today & only saw that oil pan on '94 or earlier Cavys. Do I need to swap the cam sensor too? Should I swap ALL the sensors? I don't want any bugs with this swap.
If its really an old (pre-95) block, is the pump thats in there the higher pressure stock one? I already have my M98 ready to go.

Just a follow up on this since no one knew. I did swap the sensors & oil pan. However, once the motor was back in the car, it would crank but not fire. I wasn't getting any spark. My neighbor suggested I swap out the coil packs. They looked identical to me but I figured it was worth a shot. PITA, BTW after the engine was already back in the car. But after swapping the coil packs it fired right up.
Just an FYI for anyone else in this situation.
