intermittent gauge malfunction

When it happens: the fuel gauge and tach both show readings of above zero when the car is off and goes up normally when I start the car. So when i'm crusin at 110km/h in 5th gear, it shows 3000+ rpm.
When I have a quarter tank it shows 3/4 on the gauge. One time my fuel gauge actually went so far backwards it was on 200km/h!!!
Car performs well, just the gauges look messed up. That means that my gauges need to be replaced right? It couldn't be sensors could it?

Bad ground at the cluster, probably.

Tru.. That could be possible. Getting the 'some wire is loose somewhere' is always fun.
would verifying the bad ground involve me taking out the cluster from the dash? If so, might be time to think about stage 2 interior.

You have a MIL. You should scan it.

What's a MIL...Almost 100% sure you're talking about the CEL (check engine light) but what's MIL stand for?

I've had the engine light on since I installed my header. I assumed it's the same code thats been there forever: 0420 I think. I just want to know, to change the cluster do I have to remove the whole dash assembly?
