I have a 99 Z24 with 135,000 miles. The last year has been a nightmare: suspension work (done), tune up (done), left wheel bearing (done), window problems (done), AC recharge (done), coolant flush (engine was running hot-done), loose motor mounts, bad ac compressor, bad door pins, busted dash, and all sorts of old car noises. The door pins I can deal with. The mounts have a little time. The ac compressor can wait, PLEASE HELP SNEEZY
. And the noises I just deal with or turn up the stereo system.
But I need help with this noise on the front right end! I think something is wrong with the front right break, I originally thought it was the wheel bearing. I brought it to a shop and they of course drove it and didn't notice anything. It occurs during heavy traffic driving here in Chicago (new job, I am putting 100 miles on the car a day!) The shop proabably just putted up and and down a neighborhood street putting no stress on the vehicle. It starts to make a whooping sound when slowing down. It then comes to a cringe upon full stop. It then seems to stick and make a noise for a second upon releasing the break and accelarating. When the noise becomes prevelant it'll stay that way and also make the sound on slight left turns and sometimes when I re-apply pressure to the accelarator. After letting the car sit overnight it seems fine on a short/easy drive. I am at work now and have a 50 mile rush hour drive home and I'm sure it'll SCREAM then. HELP PLEASE GENTLEMEN!
THANKS!
The sound of a bad wheel bearing is unmistakable over time, could be the right hub going if its only noisy on lefts, it will show its self eventually...
In the short term I would pull the front brakes apart and check everything for abnormal wear and give them a good cleaning.
If all checks out good, lube your caliper slide pin bolts and the knuckle-pad contact points, torque the wheels back on and see if that helps.
How are your tires?
It does sound to be a hub bearing. Especially with the weird sound its giving. But be careful, it could be coming from the rear also. But the best I can say is we will have to set up a day when u can drive herquite a bit, get the noise to happen then bring it to me and ill check it out for u. Bright side is I'm switching to day shifgt pretty soon so you can bring it to me during the afternoon. Its suppose to happen this Wednesday but I'm not 100% sure as my job keeps dicking me around. But it sounds like a combo of a bearing and maybe sticking caliper.
It did it a little on the way to work today. I got permission to leave early to get it checked out and sure enough it doesnt do it all the way home and then when I have a mechanic in the car. UNREAL! I swear it just did it now pulling into my driveway. Mike setting up a day ASAP would be excellent. I now have another issue to add to the list. Its puttering when I apply gas sometimes in reverse and drive from a stop. Not always, more prevalant in reverse. I'm assuming thats plugs and or injectors. The car is getting me from point A to point B but these little issues are driving me INSANE. Once a pay down some bills I'm almost certain I need to move on and buy a new vehicle. I STILL HAVE FAITH THO, GOTTA GET THESE DAMN THINGS TAKEN CARE OF. Ohh btw just had to buy a new battery also! never ends. Any comments, suggestions, and help would be awesome. MIKE PLEASE STAY IN TOUCH WITH SOME DATES IN THE NEAR FUTURE, PREFERABLY WEEKEND!
Thanks!
BTW Thirsty, the mechanic did exactly what you said 3 days ago and I noticed it again 2 days later.
