I can only assume this red fluid in my coolant is transmission fluid...or can I?
I jus purchased a 97 Cavalier with about 150k miles on it....it appears the last owner didnt really take the best care of it....
The headgasket blew while it was still under their warranty so it was replaced not too long ago
BUT to the point....I cannot get the screw off of the bottom driver side of the radiator to drain it so I had to flush it by forcing water/air through the hoses from the reservoir. Tommorow I will be flushing it more with water.
I checked the transmission fluid before and after I did all of this and it remains at the same level. Should I be safe with just flushing this and then adding my new coolant or is there more I should check into???
are you referring to the red "dexcool"? It is suppose to be red... Not green or yellow.
If you do swap to the green coolant. YOU BETTER FLUSH YOU SYSTEM 1000 TIMES!!! You don't want any dexcool left if you do convert over. It makes a muddy mess and can cause overheating isssues... Just sayin
thats funny cus i cant believe after looking for an answer to this for about a week now I jus found one via Google and came back and saw your response.
How hard is it to flush that stuff out really? I cant tell if the level of coolant was insanely low to begin with of if I just cant get it all out. Ive been using air compressor and garden hose to try to flush that @!#$ out.
it is a pain, but if you keep running water through it, and it comes out clear... i mean really clear... then you should be safe. Sorry it took you a week to find the answer, but it should say on your coolant cap or your coolant reservoir. It is also in your car manual.
Yea...I saw the sticker but honestly didnt really think anything of it. I had never heard of Dex Cool before.
