Lifter or valvetrain noise for 3 seconds after start...
Saturday, July 23, 2011 11:15 AM
My 2.4 has developed a disturbing noise at start ups it goes away after some 3 or 4 seconds but really annoys me, what could cause this any advise appreciated. BTW I´ve changed the oil and now using 20-50W but still makes the noise at statup.

put the right oil in it. what kinda oil filer you using? that could do it. if via you can record the noise that would help diagnose it. could be lifters , pistons , timing chain ect

20W- 50W is the right oil for the tropics where I live ( sumer is all year round) and filter is ok just a AC Delco filter. I had two mechanic friens look at it and one says the timing chain guides most probably, the other says he thinks is lifters because the noise disappears as soon as oil pres gets built....

your second friend is probably correct. you probably have a couple of sticking lifters taking a while to pump up on first startup. timing chain noise would not go away at any point. it would actually get worse when you raised RPM..
