Sometimes when I come to a stop the car will sputter horribly and occasionally stall... The idle jumps around before it does.
Then, sometimes after that happens or separately, if I press on the gas to start moving the car will just sputter and not accelerate willingly even if I floor it. If I let off the gas the problem stops.
I searched high and low but couldn't find a straight answer.

I'm having the same problem... don't have any idea what it is, but I am going to listen for answers.
without actually being there to see exactly what the car is doing, its ahrd to tell. my first impression is maybe coil packs/housing, plugs, or ignition control module. I had a similar problem a few months back. "Random Misfire" was the code I got. My suggestion is maybe go to Auto Zone or Advance Auto and see if there are any codes. Then start looking at spark, fuel, air, or fire. I imagine it would be one of those issues. Hope this was a help
same issue,Replaced the coils and the igntion control module, and new plugs and wires, still doing it,But if you see it doing it shut the car off and then restart it,and it will be fine..
but hope someone can chime in on this..mine is a 1997 auto,2.2..
The plugs only have a few thousand miles on them. I also replaced the plug connectors.
The guy I bought it from thought it was the injectors, but I swapped them out with another set and the problem persisted.
It seems like when the car bogs down during acceleration, if I REALLY lightly increase throttle percentage it will start to accelerate... vs if I just hammer the gas and it hesitates.
Sounds like the coil housing. Do a swap to regular coils and plug wires. There are a few write ups about it.

I was actually just reading about that. I may give it a shot.
Let me know how it turns out. I haven't gotten around to doing it yet.
