On my Cavalier 97 2.2L Coupe .....For some reason no matter how hot the temp gauge shows the Rad Fan will not turn on....I know the fan works though because when I unplug the sensor that's on the side of the thermostat....the Rad Fan goes on.
Question is....do I need to replace the thermostat or that sensor that turns the fan on??
replace temp switch. that is your problem
You mean the temp sensor right?
yea same difference hahah. its like 12 bucks I have one you could have but I doubt you live close enough to make it worth your while
Just picked one up from autozone for $15.99....It still makes no difference....the temp gauge goes about 75% up and still the fan doesnt kick in....I did purchase a new thermostat for a few bucks Ill be installing tomorrow though too...
Any other suggestions??
if you turn the ac on does the fan kick on? the fan wont kick on till about 225 degrees. if it sits will it overheat? 75% on the guage isnt enough to make mine come on. check the relay for giggles and check the wires to make sure they are getting power all the time.
This car isnt equipped with AC unfortunately....if the car just sits the temp gauge will just keep climbing...im scared to let it get too high for too long waiting for the fan to possibly come on. The relay seems just fine...its interchangeable with the heater cooler and I swapped it in there and it works just fine.
I just dont understand why the fan only seems to come on once i unplug the temp sensor....
hey this is amy, usually that means the sensor is bad. could be wiring to I know on my cavalier it did that and it was the sensor , maybe you got a faulty one.
what would cause the fan to come on once the temp sensor is unplugged though?
it is something to do with the wiring. not sure what though. generally if you unolug the switch and it comes on but doesnt come on otherwise it means the sensor is bad
I dont care new parts can be bad and if its not bad its a wiring issue that's what I think. you need to go out in figure it out or just run a toddle switch to the fan and turn it on manually which is what I would do if I couldn't find the problem.
