Broken bolt

After installing my new temp sensor I decided to throw in a few thermostat as well....$8 why not?

First bolt on the bottom of the housing came out great. and easy....top bolt started coming out great and easy...then without warning the head broke off...

there is about 1/4" or maybe a lil more of the bolt still sticking out the back that ive been trying everything to remove....lubed it up with everything I have and even when I couldnt find my vise grips went and bought new ones...it doesnt want to budge for anything

Im considering havin a guy down the street do the welding trick where you get a washer and nut that just about fits the bolt and weld it on to use a wrench on but thats kinda my last resort....any more tips? its too tight of a space to attach a power drill to or even use a screw/bolt extracter.

thats a bitch I would say heat it up real good and then see if itll move. if not and you dont want to cuss and scream alot I say weld it like you said. sometimes fiddling with them and spraying repeatedly with pb blast they come right out

You may also consider forcing a socket very close in size over the bolt, if you have room. It is kind of odd that it "started coming out", then broke off, and now you can't budge it, unless the threads were seized. In that case, I am not sure how you are going to proceed, short of drilling it some way.

I agree, it stinks. Good luck.

when I had a similar problem, I had to file the bolt square in order to be able to grip it with a vise grips. After that, and soaking it with pb blaster, I was able to get it out.

after ending up breaking off the only end that was accessible I was able to drill it out....it took a while but ended up drilling the hole a little bigger then the original then using a bigger bolt
