I recently got my low coolant light, so I checked my overflow tank and it was dry. I got home tonight and looked under the car and saw a pretty steady drip of coolant, about once every 3 seconds. It sounds like every once in a while it drips on to the header too because it fizzes. (It's dark out, so I can't see a lot).
Would this be the head gasket, or is there something else above the exhaust manifold that can leak?
nothing above the manifold can leak coolant....that im aware of. your going to have to get back there with a flash light and look around and let us know. could be several things
well..i just realized something...does your 2.3 still have that metal hose that wraps around the the back of the exhaust cam tower like the 2.4s have ??
Here is an old picture of my engine. I'll take a closer look tomorrow.
I'd check your water outlet housing (plastic piece that upper rad hose connects to) If its close to similar to the 2.4 thats probably where a random leak is most likely to begin. Its pretty easy to locate/get to. The problem is the plastic part that goes into the head (has an o ring seal) will detiererate with time and rot away, leaving nothing for the o ring to seal on and lets coolant be pumped out. With my 2.4 it leaked down the backside of the engine so I thought it was coming from somewhere down there. Someone else here on JBO was having the same problem at the time so I didn't have to do much looking to find the exact problem. My new piece was likeee 15 at NAPA. and less than an hour to replace and burp the system.
