Okay so i haven't turned on my a/c for a couple days but last time it worked fine. Today i turned it on and it worked for a second, then my lights dimmed and my engine made a weird noise and it started blowing normal air out like the fan wan on. So like every 30 seconds it would start blowing cold air out, then the other 30 seconds it would be the feel like the fan all while my a/c was on. Every time it changed between the two all my lights flickered a little bit and the engine made the normal noise it makes when you turn a/c on. Idk what the problem is I just hope im not the only one with it. Please help! Thanks.
I have the 2.4 engine too if that helps anything
Well your A/C pump is cycling on and off for some reason, could be a low pressure switch, caused by low refrigerant, blockage somewhere, cloged up/restricted condensor and etc.. alot of this information is available in the stickey at the top of the maintaince page. I would suggest you look there for some more answers.. and if you don't have knowledge of A/C systems you should either thouroughly read up on it or take it to a shop that has a HVAC certification... I know alot of people are mechanically inclined, myself included, and many people try to service their own A/C... but not everyone in their home shop has access to specific tools needed to properly service an Air conditioning system, or the knowledge of how to use them. But if you want to do it yourself, find some manifold gauges and check your freon levels for starters.
Is the a/c pump the compressor? Or is the pump a whole different part on the car?
Compressor/Pump is the same thing, its commonly called either depending if the person knows A/C lingo.. I've also heard of the AC fan, AC radiator.. the big silver thingey... and etc...
Another thing that you can check out is all the wiring harness connections, this could be causing the cycling problem as well.. Look at the one on the AC Compressor, make sure the wires aren't chewed up or whatnot, also that the plug in makes good connection to the compressor.. then follow the AC lines and check any other wires that connect to sensors or whatever on the lines.. not exactly sure where they are.
