So my 2000 base 2200 Cavalier acted weird today for the first time. It always sits at 195 or a bit lower in a drive thru no matter how long I sit with the ac going even in the 110 heat days in Okc. Well today while sitting in the drive thru with the outside temp at 89, I looked down to find my car sitting between 3 quarters and the H spot. I idled my car up to about 1000 rpms and it dropped back to the 195 spot and stayed there. The coolant fan and Radiator was replaced last year and it has been fine since until today. Could be nothing as the coolant levels and everything looks fine, just wanted to get some advice to maybe catch a small issue before it becomes a larger one. My car is right at 165,600 miles and runs great. No smoke from the exhaust and no coolant in the oil as of yet, I would like to avoid a head gasket failure at all cost!

Sounds normal to me..our cars fan comes on at 224 degrees which is about 3/4th the gauge, but still in the normal range....and you said you revved it to 1000? mine idles about 950 lol
I'd give the fan and thermostat oil extra a once over but I agree that's normal but if it seems odd to you check it to be sure

autos have a different idle then manuals and he has an ecotec so once again your retarded and stop trying to help people

I think I would have to disagree with you on this. 50/50 anti-freeze boils at that temp give or take a couple of degrees.
Ok there is alot of BS on here. Our fans do come on around224 degrees. Which is about 3/4 up the guage. If you notice something out of the norm check it out but i agree that what you are describing doesnt seem to out of the norn. And for the love of God why do you guys give 95ls coupe so much crap ? He's been nothing but nice to me. I think you guys just like to cause crap and its pretty inmature.

its pressurized the boiling point is higher, if that was the case why would gm program it to come on like that.
Did you have your a/c off when it did that? If so then that's normal. If not check your water pump for weeping after you let it get that hot and shut it off

And 50/50 doesn't boil at 224. Water under 15 lbs of pressure boils boils at around 240. Antifreeze doesn't boil till 250 Ish. The pressure increases the boiling point

All I said was that I did not agree with him. I did not call BS or throw him under the bus or anything like that.
