posted on here before about this and didnt really find an answer. i have a 99 2200 auto. when is 65 degrees or warmer outside, the car has a very hard time starting. when it is 60ish or colder outside. the car will fire with out any problems. the battery is very strong, starter is good, charging system is good, fuel pump has pressure. does anybody think the iat, map sensor, or the tps would cause this to happen?
What exactly is it not doing when its warmer out? Does it not turn over correctly, no fuel, or no fire? check how hot the spark is when its warmer out, also not sure how to check for fuel pressure in this particular car... Does it have any issues starting after the engine is warmed up ever?
Shot in the dark here.. Sparkplugs and Sparkplug wires new / in good condition? Sometimes the simplest things fix the most annoying of problems. It's weird it'd start in the cold but not warm. the heat would certainly cause something to expand ever-so-slightly, but what?... As jordan said, what happens exactly when you turn the key to start the car?
My dad's truck needed a new starter, engine cold it would crank real fast, after driving it to operating temp, if you shut it off and tried to start it, it would crank really slow, sometimes not crank at all....only thing to do was wait for it to cool down a little....although those are temps well above 100 under the hood so idk
i put new plugs and wires in not to long ago, it helped a little but didnt fix the problem. the starter turns the same speed if its cold, hot, or the engine has been ran. if the engine has been run up to operating temp, turn the car off, then restart with in 10-15 mins the car will start with no problem. but if you wait longer than that, it is hard to start.
after a while of having this problem, when i start the car i hold it at wot, and the car will start alot sooner than it does with the throttle closed. dont know if that has anything to do with it or not.
for common hard starting when warm I would look into these factors:
fuel filter plugged.
fuel pump getting weak.
battery or connections corroded.
Faulty coolant temperature sensor or intake air temperature sensor.
Good Luck.
battery is very clean and very strong, coolant temp sensor and intake temp sensor have both been replaced and no change with the starting problem
Have you checked fuel pressure at the fuel rail? Could be the fuel pressure regulator.
i had the same problem in my 99 3 spd auto. used to have to mash the gas to make sure it would start. i replaced everything, that i could have thought of. finally, i bought the two i hadn't done yet, crank position sensor (9 dollars autozone) and the throttle position sensor (29 dollars autozone). Now, if i even breathe on the key, it fires immediately.....my .02
Have you scanned it yet??? Attached a tech 2 or modus tool?
no codes on the odbII scanner, changed the fuel filter the other day. it was stopped up, but no change in the problem
