Is The Trans Going?

hi guys, my girl freind has a 04 cavi automatic with 160,000 kms. i have been driivng it last few days, noticing that sometimes when i go from a take off and just drive normally and not fast, sometimes itl seem like the car stops at accelerating even though i never took my foot off the gas, and so i give it a little more gas and it pickups back to normal again.

it only does this now and then. and when it seems to happen if while going from a dead stop to 20km/h in between there. i also noticed that her engine, as it gets up in the revs it has a little engine noise that picks up with the revs. it doesnt sound like metal on metal i dont think, its not loud loud but its there, at idling it has a little noise.. could it be signs of timing belt needing to be changed so soon?

i got a 05 cavi thats 5 speed, and mine doesnt sound like her engine.

thanks for your time, shawn

Could it be misfiring?

sounds like a slign misfire to me...check spark plugs?
i know some cars make a ticking noise when you need an oil change....how recent was the oil changed?

Check the ignition components, these cars do not have a timing belts. They all use timing chains.
Begin with typical maintenance, or provide us with more information
Oil Change
Air Filter
Fuel Filter
Spark Plugs
Transmission Serivce

thanks for all replies, she got the car with about 150,000kms on it last january from a used car dealership. i heard about these breaking timing chains around 160k, hence i asked, which makes me wonder when should hers be changed? and the engine noise it had when we got it from the dealership used. it might be a little low ticking noise, and as you accerlerate and revs up you can hear it a little better. not sure whether to worry about it or not.

i know her oil change was last done about 3,000kms. and it still had the noise. i see my car (05 cavi) i can go even a little over 5,000kms and the oil still look clean on the dip stick, but with her car it seems get black quicker, not sure if that means anything. and i also noticed her airbox thing by fuel rail collects a small amount of oil.

not sure about the air filter, but im sure i can pull that off tommorow and take a look. good suggestion about fuel filter, as it only seems to happen under very light throttle, maybe its getting dirt more then gas? which i knew howto change a fuel filter

spark plugs, have no idea how old they are, cant you tell from looking at the bottom of them? and im going to guess it never had a trans flush, that saying when should one be done?

thanks so much for all your guys help, i just atleast wanna see where this could cost me if i cant fix it myself as id have to save money up.

maybe theres someone from halifax / bridgewater / liverpool area on here that wants to make a new friend? lol.

Just buy a cheap air filter replacement if you are not looking for performance, no need for anything expensive. Fuel filter, same thing, no need for spending more than 15 dollars I'd say. It's fairly easy to do, but if you are unsure take it to a shop and see what they will do for you.
Spark Plugs, if they look black or very brown they are getting tired, I'd change them for the hell of it...better to be safe than sorry.
Transmission service, just drop the pan, change the filter, and refill. Advanced, or Autozone should be able to help you out, or someone with an auto can chime in.

As for the Timing, I wouldn't worry unless you know someone that can diagnose it better, because if you don't change the chain yourself you'll easily run yourself about 500-1000 at a shop for it.
