Coolant leak
Monday, October 10, 2011 6:28 PM
I recently did a head job on my 01 2.4 so I went ahead and got a timming chain, guides, water pump ect... Long story short I got everything back together start it up and it started pouring coolant out off the back side of water pump where it connects to the block. At first I had thought the gasket had shifted out of place but then I went ahead and got a new one but noticed that on the block it was not completely smooth or flush there was like a a smooth curve so I dint think much if it hopping the gasket would take car of it but it didn't.. Would like to know any ideas in how to fix this??

Should have miked the heads for runout! Heads are warped also there may be cracks in the deck. Would not use permatex!!

if its leaking from the back of the block it has nothing to do with the head. make sure you got every last bit of old gasket off of the block and housing. the factory gasket kinda bakes on there and you kinda have to chip it off. theres pretty much no way that part of the block would warp so my guess is that part of the old gasket is still there. theres nothing wrong with a little permatex, just dont gob it on.

That's exactly what happend @ Jon D there was a still some of the old gasket and the thing is that it felt completely flush and could even see it but yea I ended up with a razor blade and gasket scraper and got it off! But finished that up and it's running like a charm. The only prob now is the remanufactured head I got had a bad thread in it and I didn't notice till found the car leaking oil and saw one of the valve cover bolts just spinning sucks gotta put a time sert in it now... Thanks everyone thoe appricaiate it
