wierd vibrations
Thursday, April 28, 2011 8:12 PM
Ok so my vert has been getting weird vibratiosn between like 65 and 75 mph (avg cruising traffic speed on local highway) the vibrations seem to be throughout the whole car not just the steering wheel like with off ballance tires. I did have all 4 tires balanced and the rear struts replaced, replcaing front struts tomorrow, one of them is blown. Any suggestions as to what it could be? Out of balance drums or rotors maybe?

wheel bearings or sticking brake caliper, Could be the front struts. Hows the balljoints and tie rods?.

I dont think its a wheel bearing or a sticking caliper, It sounds like a bad tie rod. I have one bad on the drivers side of my vert, and when you are up at those speeds it wiggles a bit and goes through the whole car. I noticed it when I installed my drop kit. I would check those tie rids and balljoints.

I'm having the same vibration problem, but my struts are good, my front end is tight, good ball joints, goos inner and outer tie rod ends, the tires are balanced, but the whole car vibrates a bit right around that 65-75 mark. It's now done it with two completely different sets of wheels and tires.
And the brakes all new as well. New calipers/rotors/pads/shoes, Drums are old, but they were turned when I put the shoes on.
My only thought was the drums aren't balanced anymore.

BTW, no thread jack intended, but I didn't want to start a new thread, since you are already asking the same question, OP.

I probably should check the balljoints and tierods, the car has over 200k on it and the balljoints are stock. I did notice when I was under the hood pushing down on the car and letting go that the passanger strut mount has a ton of movement.

Sunfiretun3r I have wondered about my drums as well.

I would check your axles. If an axle is bad it can cause that vibration your having. Does it change if you change the throttle input?

I just went out and looked and the boot is torn on the passenger side, grease is everywhere. It is pretty consistent whether im on the throttle or not. Im starting to worry that its a combination of a bunch of parts.

Just bought 2 new axles...one on the Z needs replacing also.

The axle would be a great place to start, especially if the boot is torn. Let me know how it goes.

My axles are good. I just replaced both axle seals.
However, on the passenger side axle I did notice the inner joint had some movement. Best way I could describe it would be like a bad tie rod end type of movement. Could that be my issue?

And also, I believe my shake goes away if I take my foot of the throttle. I will confirm tomorrow, but, I'm pretty sure it does.
I guess I have a bad axle.... Who knew?

Well my axles havn't shown up yet but there is further development on the problem. Since the weather is warmer the vibrations are even worse and at a broader mph range. I also found that if I'm taking a right curve on the highway while the vibrations are occuring that they stop but when Im straight or in a left curve they persist. Im thinking this points to the right front strut and or mount because when in a tight right curve less weight is on that corner taking stress off the strut and therefore reducing vibrations. I have some front AGX's to put on and some solid strut mounts on their way so we shall see what happens.

Any update on that?? I got exactly the same problem! I know i need to replace left control arm bushing but i dont think that the cause of it. I think maybe axle shaft or tie-rod.

It was a bad hub, I found this out when I changed my axle and the wheel bearing fell apart.

Now onto my other car, its vibrating during acceleration since I lowered it.

How low are you?
When I dumped my ground controls it vibrated pretty badly upon acceleration. it's the angle of the axles.

I'm not slammed but I'm thinking about lifting it to see...I'm on coilovers
