I searched for awhile on here and couldnt find a similar post but anyways I'm in the process of changing my water pump on my 99 Z24. Ive removed the 5 nuts holding the mount to the body and the 2 large bolts. I cant seem to get the 3 18mm bolts out of the bracket though. I've loosened them up alot but I dont have enough room in between the body to get them all the way out. I've tried jacking the engine up more but its to the point where its hitting the A/C accumulator(i think. cant remember if thats what its called). Even with the engine that high I cant even finish removing the top bolts. Has anyone else had a simiar issue when removing the mount bracket? Every time I raise the engine more it keeps tilting back towards the fire wall. Is there something very simple here that I'm missing? Im afraid to raise this thing any further. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Ok so I managed to get the top right bolt out. I forgot to ask earlier. Just how high can I raise the engine without breaking something? Can it be raised high enough where all 3 bolts can come out from the top?
The other mounts should hold the engine enough you shouldn't break anything raising it up just be careful and watch what you are stretching when you are rasing it. I had a similiar issue when I needed to take the top motor mount out on my car but was able to raise it enough to get the bolts out except one, I just got it loose enough and wiggled the bracket out. Just have to be careful but you should be alright. Here is a link that may help you out with the water pump.

If you need anymore info that link includes the whole manual for your car so you can look up further information from that link if you want to or start here.

I can't really tell you much more without looking at the car. Like I said just be careful and you should be able to get the bolts out that you need.
also, penetrating spray is your best friend for the harder bolts.
I just did this same job last month. i would have rather changed the whole motor! it was hell! good luck.

Okay I finally did manage to get the bolts out with the help of my dad using a pry bar. that bottom one was an absolute pain though. But if its fine to raise it high enough to get the top 2 bolts in and out maybe installing the new bolts wont be as bad of a job. By the way how on earth are you supposed to torque those bolts? Do you guys just tighten them as much as possible with the wrench and put thread locker on them?
Thats all i do with them, others may be more specific.

I know this question is a little off topic from the mount but after you've taken the tension off the timing chain and all the bolts out of the pump housing, I still cant get it to come out. Going off the write up for the water pump in the Library on here it says something about a quick disconnect or hose clamp? I see a hose clamp on the end of the pipe coming from the thermosat housing that connects the the H hoses. but there is also some sort of plastic clip below that on the metal pipe. Do I need to loosen the bolt that holds this pipe in place as well as removing this plastic clip and the hose clamp? My chilton manual doesnt even show the metal pipe in the picture of the water pump nor does it state anything about removing a hose clamp or quick disconnect.

That is pretty much how I do it if the torque wrench doesn't fit. You have to be careful also as I found out last month that some of the bolts GM makes break off easily, never saw anything like it, I wasn't tightening the bolt alot at all and it just snapped in half. The more you work on things the more experience you get, like front cover bolts you just need to tighten them up so they don't fall out, they need to be torqued exactly, but some things are important like axle nuts, if you don't get them right you'll wear out your bearings quickly.
This water pump job has just about turned into a nightmare. I have everything unbolted from the pump itself, but cant get the dam tensioner shoe off to slide the chain off. Once I finally do get it off will I have to re-time the engine since I put 2 bolt in the cams to hold them in place?
My second and main concern at the moment is the pipe that runs from the water pump housing. After I removed the hose clamp I tried pulling the hose off from the plastic end and the plastic broke. So what exactly am I supposed to be replacing? The plastic connection thing, the H-hose assembly, or the whole pipe coming off the water pump? There is still about and inch or so plastic stuck in the hose so Im lost as to what I need to replace. Also if anyone knows the actual name of this piece I need to know so I can start trying to hunt one down.
I appreciate the help so far guys and sorry for all the questions, but I've got to get this thing done soon.
