I am wondering how I would go about replacing the coolant sensor on my 96 cavalier. My dad took it to Wal-Mardiane got an oil change on it when I was in class and they snapped the sensor off. How can I get it off and is it cheaper to change it myself or just take it to a shop?
It comes out with a 1/2 inch socket. New one goes in the same way. The sensor is on the driver side of the motor. Near the upper radiator hose.
BTW... I am not 100% sure it is a 1/2 inch socket... I have never owned the 2.4... but it should be the same size as mine. lol.
Yup, it's on the housing where the upper rad hose meets the head. Drain the coolant, change sensor, re fill coolant, done deal. Be sure you get all the air out of the cooling system. Pretty simple job.

My big question is... why the heck would anyone changing the oil be anywhere near the coolant sensor?
Yes. Of course walmart is a problem. Even though oil changes are not a difficult job. They still seem to mess them up.
let the guy at Wal Mart figure out how to replace the sensor that he broke, and let WalMart pay for it.
