Power Steering went out, Diagnosis??
Wednesday, December 21, 2011 10:33 PM
My power steering quit on me tonight out of nowhere, pump never made a noise, fluid checks the same as it always has, no leaks. Do these pumps usually make any noise when they go out? or is it more of a poof its gone thing? I wouldn't think anything down in the steering mechanism would go bad would it? Searched for power steering info but not much came up, just a few how do i change it posts.. I'm just looking for a bit of confirmation on it and i'll have a new pump on there asap.

Well, I would pull the pump off and make sure the hex insert is still on the pump. They are known to sheer off... if it broke then replace the pump. Also make sure the rest of it is out of the cam.

You were right, pulled the pump and it was just a nub on the end. hex was still in the cam. new pump will be in there by the end of the day. Thanks for the help.
