Wheres my oil going??
Wednesday, January 04, 2012 9:11 PM
I drove both 99 cavalier 2 door cars. one has a 2200 motor and the other a 2.4 twin cam. In the 2.2 motor i have to at least add 1.25 quart of oil in between every 4500 miles oil change interval. I checked my plugs no signs of oil burning. Checks the seals no leaks So where does the oil go??? The 2.2 has 156K on it still runs tight as a tack best car i have ever owned and imma run it into the ground and heck i may even put a motor in it after that one goes bad. Now my other question is are the 2.4 Twin Cam motors known for oil leaving? i just put in a 82K motor and i think in one oil change i lost almost a quart of oil. Checks plugs and they were fine. So are these motors just known for oil dissapearing??

The oil obviously should not be just disappearing. It's leaking from somewhere and without your car in front of us we can't tell you where it is leaking from. You will have to take a look to see where it is coming from. When you park it at night, is there oil on the ground in the morning? If you can't seem to find it, the best thing I can suggest is taking it into a shop for them to take a look.

Best way to find an oil leak is to clean the whole engine bay really well. Then the leak will be obvious. That oil leak rate could very well not make it all the way to the ground.

It can be burning it too.
It just won't be alot at once, thus you don't see smoke, your plugs look good.
How does the engine look? Is everything dry? If not you probably do have a leak.
