Reading the chilton repair manual it says I need a J-39765 tool to remove the cam lock ring. Is this true? The cheapest i found one was $74!
No, just use a flat head screw driver and tap it with a hammer.....worked like 5 times for pumps I've replaced.

Sweet! I probably would have figured it out, but never hurts to be prepared thanks for the help guys! Can't justify doing it myself if I had to pay $100 for a freaking one time use tool!
Tools are more of an investment, not an expense. The tools you buy can make you more money then what they cost.

Yeah but how many fuel pumps will I replace that require that tool? Probably just this one. Maybe if I was a mechanic or was planning on keeping the cavy forever. Its a good way to look at it though.
