My battery light is on in my 98 sunfire. The battery and alternator are both brand new, but the battery isn't charging. The battery terminals are good and clean, but the connection at the battery pan is minorly corroded. What gives?
replace any wires that show corrosion.
make sure battery terminals are clean and tight.. have the alternator tested to make sure its good.. even new can go bad sometimes..
check the connections on the starter motor, theyre covers with a rubber boot and may not look bad but I had an issue with mine that inside the boot and the covering for the wire the lines inside were broken and worn bad..
it took me months to figure out there was an issue with them but for some reason it was causing my battery light to go on and sometimes charging and starting issues..
if you can.. clip away a bit of the wires connecting to the starter motor.. clean em up and put new terminal ends on them.. should only be a few minute job, you can access it easy enough by laying on your back under the car..
once I did this the light went out and no more issues.
had a mechanic friend come check it out. The fusible link looked fine, but was completely melted inside the insulation. Problem solved!
