I have a 2.2 ecotec l61 2003.
On the left side of the motor there is a hose that passes the timing chain to the back to what looks like a mini tank.
On this hose there is a little valve coming up with a cap on it.
I got an oil change the other day and after I drove off my car made a whistling sound going through the rpm range, I took a look under the hood and that cap is missing.
WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My question is what is that cap for and can it cause permanent damage without it on?
If you are referring to the blue cap on the line on the left of the engine that goes into the silver canister in the back,
then it is for checking pressure in the A/C line and will not affect your engine but you will not have any A/C
thats exactly it, thank you.
I should probably get a cap on that though right? I mean it's common sense, Im just being extra sure.
I'm sure all of the gasses have escaped from your A/C system by now, but yes you should still put a cap back on there.
Shouldn't be too much from an auto parts store, or even grab one from a U-Pull
That cap isn't needed. All it does is prevent dirt and water from getting into the valve.

I hope that post was a joke. The cap doesn't seal anything. As Tinkles said it just prevents dust from getting into the Schroederer valve. It works exactly as the valves on your wheels.

Stupid as hell.
Do you that think that cap which is for the L/S A/C line can handle 40-50psi?

it's quite a bit higher than that when the compressor isn't running...
