OK, first things first.... '02 cav with the 2.2 ohv. I've owned the car since new and have maintained it to the best of my ability between deployments. I'm right at 95k miles and just replaced my power steering pump due to a worn out pulley bearing as well as my drive belt even though it didn't really need it.
Recently I've started to notice a very faint fuel smell while the car is running but only if it's not moving. I've checked the lines, did a sniff test and checked for leaks around the fuel rail in case it was the o ring injectors. I've heard it could be the evap canister and a lot of other things. Just wondered if anyone had a simple time efficient way to narrow this down so I'm not just replacing part after part with no results.
Also, just this morning when I stopped for coffee on my way to work, I noticed a light sort of clicking/hissing sound when I started my car. It changes with engine speed. When I got here I popped the hood to take a quick look to make sure it wasn't anything obvious but haven't had time to dig any deeper. It's coming from the front pass. side of the engine behind the alternator and there's a light rush of air accompanying the noise. Any wild stabs in the dark? Appreciate any help offered.
Use a smoke tester that will show you for sure.
