Well ashley if you are refering to the new motor as being the 2.2l ecotec from a newer cav then here is all the info you shall need, many many questions asked many many answered. If you are going to replace with the ecotec then enjoy ive done many of them around here and we all enjoy them.
ECO 2.2L swap
Happy swapping!!
Wayne, keep in mind she says it's a '98. It's gonna be a lot more involved than swapping into a 00-02.
To the OP, in addition to what is covered in the How To that Wayne posted, you'll need to pretty much desire the car front to back, in and out, change gas tanks, fuel system, evap system, and then some. The practical way to swap a pre 00 car is to have a whole donat car...this is all of course, you are indeed asking about swapping in an Ecotec.
If you're asking about swapping in a 2.2 (ln2/2200) ohv, yes you can, but it won't be 100% plug in play. You would need the wiring harness for the ln2/2200 as most of your sensors will be on opposite sites from the ld9 to the ohv...or it's a matter of cutting/extending/splicing wires to get them in the right location. I'm sure there are odds and ends needed too, but off the top of my head I'm not sure.
I would use the search feature and start reading before asking to be spoon fed...there are countless threads on here with great info on Eco swapping (like the one Wayne shared), as well as swapping between ld9s and OHVs.
