I have a 1999 cavalier 2.4 and recently the cars been misfiring every so often, sometimes the check engine light comes on once i start the car or while im driving, plugged a code reader in and got a p0301 random misfire code, anyone know what's causing this? thanks
I would do the regular maintenance first, new
plug wires
plugs
air and fuel filter
pcv valve if the 2.4 has one
vacuum lines and leaks
good tests for battery alternator and grounds
let us know which ones you do or did
my car (2.2 liter) turned the engine light on about two years ago, and I made it go away a couple times by changing the way the plug wires touch other things.
I did install new wires and plugs, I think it was on or before the third time I moved the plug wires around.
So now I even have a new battery, reman.-alternator, pcv valve and hose, removed and cleaned egr valve, new fuel injector. No engine lights, but I think
I will change vacuum lines and fuel filter next, those two I haven't done yet.
I put new plugs in not to long ago, it does have an after market intake, but that has nothing to do with it because it ran fine before and after i put it in, maybe a new coil pack is needed, battery already replaced, doesnt have an egr, i will go through those and replace them to see what it is, thanks jr
Could be the.coil housing. They are known to go bad and allow the.coil to arc to the can towers.
"Oil Leak ? What oil Leak ? Oh, Thats Just The Sweat From All The HorsePower!!"
checked the compression its 185 all around, so it wasnt that, but i also did change the coils and the coil housing, and it seemed to have fixed the problem. thanks guys
thanks for letting us know how you fixed it
Those Coil Housings are terrible, I ripped mine out and went with MSD Coils and wires. Now I need to find a new mount for them since I swapped strut tower braces.
how hard is it to go to the coils and wires set up ?
