I have a 02' Sunfire 2200. Ive had to run my car with the IAC unplugged all winter long. It began one morning when I was going to work, my car stopped idling at stops, so I tried a second hand IAC, no luck. Tried the reset procedure with the IAC I installed, no luck. Changed my whole Throttle Body, no luck. And no codes for my IAC. So I manually set it with a screwdriver to where it would idle normal at operating temp, and I unplugged the valve. A few months later (Now) I find a tool at work to test IAC motors, it's made for a dodge, but it looks like the same connector and pins as my Sunfire. But yesterday when I took a look at my harness to see if I could plug up the tool, I noticed vers du gris (corrosion???) on one of the 4 terminals of the harness of my IAC motor. How could there have been voltage passing through this harness all winter long, when it wasnt even plugged into the IAC valve. I know for a fact that there was none on it a few months back when this problem started. The harness connector was just dangling behind my throttle body all winter long, but I can't see how vers du gris would form... Any suggestions? Is this just normal?
I dont understand. you're asking how corrosion forms on exposed, non painted steel...?

this. electricity speeds corrosion, but isn't the ONLY factor.
