So I have been having problems with my car overheating even in cool temperatures and driving down the freeway. So today I turned the car on and let it run for 15 -20 minutes with me standing there listening for odd things or smells. nothing. It stayed at normal operating temperature the whole time. I then decided to take it for a quick drive around the block and the temp gauge started to rise pretty quick, so I returned home. I then Emptied the radiator and tested the thermostat in a pot of boiling water and it seemed to operate well. My water pump is not making any unsual noises and i have not noticed any leaks from it. My motor is a 2200.
My next thought is either the radiator is clogged or the water pump has a broken fin.
Also I have checked all of the signs that would point out that I have a blown headgasket and it seems that everything is ok in that regard.
I would greatly appreciate and feedback and questions.

What dis the coolant you took out look like? You could try some cooling system flush/de scaler... might clean the rad out. Or the pump, you could try a new t stat while your at it...
check your coolant flow, that will tell you if the water pump is working properly
The coolant is just like it was fresh out of the bottle. no oil at all. However I detected a gasoline fume smell in the overflow tank when the car was running. I took the radiator out and checked it for leaks and it seemed to no have any leaks whatsoever. So I have gone ahead and taken the head off and am working on replacing the gasket and straightening the head this week. I did not see any cracks in the gasket or head when I took them off so i assume that the gasket had just worn thin? going to be doing a pressure test on the coolant system when I am finished.

If your going through all that work you might as well put a new pump on while your at it, and service anything else you can while its torn down ya know?...
yeah seeing as they are only $60.00 I will most likely replace it.
