My a/c decided it doesnt want to work for me.
So id like to narrow things down and fix it if I can. Currently my pump does not engage when I turn my a/c on so it would lead me to believe I have low refrigerant.
I read in the Hayes manual you can run 12v to the compressor to make the clutch engage and force the pump to work. But ive also read people just jump the relay and make it work as well. Since the latter sounds easier id rather do it that way but not sure if they is any harm I can do doing it that way?
If so what pins do I connect to jump the relay?
You can jumper the relay, that is the better method since that will test the computers ability to control the compressor clutch...
First, swap the ac relay with another relay in the fuse box thats the same size... see if it works, if it does'nt continue on by pulling the relay out of the box and jumping across terminals 87 and 30 in the fuse box. (there will be a diagram and stamped numbers on the bottom where the terminals exit.)
I would do this with the engine off, just to ensure that the clutch works, no sense in letting the compressor run if its low on refrigerant.
Likely you are low on refrigerant and the computer is deciding not to engage the clutch. If it is full of refrigerant then it could be the AC pressure switch.
If the switch, the relay, and the wiring to the clutch is good, it could be the control circuit of the relay coming from the PCM... That would be my last guess.
