After almost a month of frustration with this car, i realized i should probably ask someone as I'm coming up dry and don't like the idea of just throwing money at the problem until i stumble upon the answer. Ok, 98 cavalier w/2.2 L engine. Fuel pump went out a little over a month ago so I replaced it. I replaced the entire ass'y, wires, hoses and all. Next day, fuel pump fuse blows. I assume wires from fuel pump maybe grounding out on chassis, so drop tank and inspect........ nothing........ Fast forward a month, and the fuse has blown 2 more times. Each time I've dropped the tank and inspected wiring on top of tank, thinking it had to be an error I made while doing the previous repair. Everytime the wiring has looked fine. Thinking this had to be a grounding issue, I even pulled the back seat and checked the wires there. They are fine. The other day the car stalls out on me again, and this time the check engine light comes on. I replace the fuse and head on my way. I pull the scanner out that night and code comes up as P0200 injector circuit. Anyone have any experience with this problem? Tonight I will check voltage at injector harnesses but this is an intermittent problem and I don't see me finding any issues. Looking for some help out there..........
Disconnected plugs from injectors, all lighting up with test light. Same at the 2 terminals under relay. Pulled out my fluke and getting 10 to 14 volts at each connector whn cranking. Checked the resistance at the same connectors and getting a reading on each on right around .600........
Anybody? I'm thinking about replacing the injectors and seeing if there is any improvement? Not sure if a clogged or faulty injector could cause a situation that would blow the fuse though?
Whats the injector resistance at room temp?
really hard to suggest something as you probably need a labscope or the factory gm injector test tool to get definitive evidence of a fault.
If you could measure amp draw at the fuel pump harness you could rule out the fuel pump.
Seems more likely to be an injector issue; viewing injector waveform would confirm this.
Thanks, I will probably just go ahead and replace all 4 injectors and see where that leaves me. Car has been idling a bit rough so it has been on my to do list for a couple years anyway.
